How in the world is this week over already?! Yet another week of summer is already over, time sure has been passing quickly lately! We had a blast up north in Cheboygan, Michigan this past week. I truly love this state and experienced so many moments this week where I was just blown away with everything it has to offer, and how grateful I am to be able to experience it.
With each season I fall more and more in love with Michigan. I am so lucky to live in a state that experiences all four seasons, and even luckier to get to take advantage of some of the opportunities it gives us with each different season.
I am currently loving summer and the relaxation, family time, and sunshine that it brings. This week exceeded my expectations, per usual!
We started the week Saturday evening with some exploring of Mackinaw City, even though we were all already familiar with that area. We headed to dinner and then stumbled upon this awesome laser maze that is still one of the highlights of the week for me!
Sunday was spent mostly prepping for the week. My mom ran my 10 mile long run with me (she’s not training for anything at the moment but jumped right in to this mileage with no problem at all!). We spent the morning running and then planned for the week and grocery shopped in the evening. After dinner we had a bonfire and some ice cream outside by the water.
On Monday, we rode our bikes to downtown Cheboygan, which ended up being about a 12 mile trip. The distance wasn’t too bad, but I think I need to get a new seat on my bike because my butt sure was sore! I didn’t realize how much more padding my spin bike has on it, but I sure am grateful that it came with that extra padding. We checked out the dive shop downtown and then had lunch at a local restaurant before riding back.
Tuesday morning we woke up and drove to Drummond Island in the Upper Peninsula. It was about an hour and a half drive, which was not bad. We rode a car ferry over to island (which I have never done before!) and then checked out the welcome center. We weren’t sure if we wanted to hike or kayak, but after getting some information we decided on kayaking. We rented some kayaks, packed a lunch, and launched in a bay in search of some ship wrecks. It took us about an hour to paddle around the peninsula to find where the map showed a ship wreck, but the water was so high that we weren’t able to see it. Some locals told us that there is usual a marker by the wreck, but the water was so high that even the marker was under water. We ate lunch on our kayaks and then paddled back to our launch spot which ended up being about 3 hours total.
We had another fire in the evening and watched some fireworks by the lake to celebrate the 4th.
On Wednesday morning, we headed out on a dive boat to snorkel some ship wrecks. This was my fiance’s first time ever using a snorkel or wet suit and he loved it! (Good thing, too, because we already booked some snorkeling for our honeymoon;). We anchored right in between two wrecks that were in pretty shallow water. We lucked out because the water temperature was more than 10 degrees warmer than it had been the previous few days, and visibility was awesome! We used wet suits while snorkeling and the water was definitely tolerable. The ship wrecks were only in about 15 feet of water so they were accessible by surface diving. This was definitely the highlight of the week for me!
I decided to do my long run of 12 miles on Thursday this week, since Friday would be spent traveling and this weekend is my bachelorette party so I know my motivation will be low. My fiance left Thursday morning to head to his Bachelor Party, but had a Skype call for work in the morning, so I split up my run into two 6 milers. I ran the first 6 miles while he was on the phone and the second half after he left. I DEFINITELY did not want to go back out there after the first 6, but I sure am glad I did! My knee has been hurting, but I taped it on this run and it felt much better. My mom ran with me again (she is a champ!) and it was nice to get it out of the way on a day where I was not rushed. The rest of the day was spent packing up and getting my things together, and then relaxing outside by the water.
Today I am heading down to the Detroit area to stay in a house with 10 of my best friends! I absolutely can’t wait to catch up with all of them and have them all together in the same place. This party means that the wedding is getting really close which makes everything that much more exciting!
Hopefully your weekend is filled with excitement, and family and friends.
