Marathon Training, Week 9 Recap

Happy Sunday, everybody! This is one of my favorite days of the week because it usually calls for rest and family. 

After officially skipping week 8 of training completely, it feels great to get back on track this week. This was the very first week that I have completed every single workout in the order originally scheduled, and boy does that satisfy my OCD 😉

Here’s how the week played out for me:

Monday – 4 miles. This was my first official run back after a 10 day break from training and I was so happy with how it went! My legs and breathing felt normal and I was so happy how quickly my body got back in the groove. They are doing construction on my usual running route so I had to take a detour and stumbled across all the mailboxes from that street. 🙂


Tuesday – Strength workout. I completed this workout for hips and hamstrings and I definitely needed it. My hip and upper leg strength is always the first to go after a break and I was definitely struggling with some of these moves. I know it will pay off in the future though!


Wednesday – 6 miles. I felt a little more sluggish on this run than Monday but nothing out of the ordinary! It is so much more challenging trying to find running routes now with that construction taking place. This was supposed to be a tempo run but I decided against that about one minute in and decided getting the miles in will at least count for something 😉


Thursday – Cross training. I decided to do a 45 minute yoga routine for cross training and wow, I didn’t realize how much I needed it! I always shy away from yoga for cross training because it never makes me work up a sweat but man this one was tough. I had to cut many moves short because I just could not hold them long enough. I think this is a sign that I need to incorporate more yoga into my training!


Friday – 4 miles. This run was awesome! It was only in the 60s outside and the humidity was gone PLUS it was cloudy. My legs felt fresh and I loved the whole thing!


Saturday – 14 miles. I sure was not motivated to drive 25 minutes to the closest trail, but I am glad I did it! The first half of the run was great but by the time I turned around I could definitely start to feel like I had missed a full week of training. The last 4 miles were really tough, and this run was much more challenging than the 14 miles I ran 2 weeks ago, but it still wasn’t too bad overall! The weather was beautiful and there were many people out on the trail which was awesome.


Sunday – Rest.

After not knowing what to expect coming back from a break, I am SO happy with the way this week played out! I’m starting to get my confidence back and feel like I actually WILL be able to run this marathon. Only 11 weeks to go now!

    You tuesday workout is great. I have done a lot of those exercises as part of my PT, and they work wonders.

    1. Thank you! I learned a lot of them in PT too and they really do the trick. It’s crazy how much stronger you can get when you isolate different muscles!
