Tuesday Tangents

I know I sound like a broken record… but how is this week the last week in August already?! It is back to school time, meaning that most of my teacher friends are either back with students or preparing for them with Professional Development days. It also means it’s time to start mentally transitioning from careless summer days obsessing about our wedding, to getting back to work and enjoying the change in seasons. My mind is all over the place this week trying to wrap up loose ends from the wedding and summer, while transitioning into a fresh new school year, so I thought I’d share some random thoughts.

I think it’s safe to say that this is the happiest I have felt at the end of a summer! Knowing that fall is right around the corner, and that this year is going to be so much different than any year so far is incredibly exciting. This will be the first year since I started Kindergarten that I will not be heading back to school in the fall. From grade school, to college, to teaching in public schools, this year will be very different for me. Being that my husband is a high school band director, I know that I will never get too far removed from the back to school excitement, but I am greatly looking forward to a change this year and a fresh start.

Does anybody else get as excited as I do about fresh new notebooks and planners?! I LOVE them and always have. There is something about a blank page that makes my mind excited. I think it’s similar to the New Years feel – a fresh start and new beginning – that makes a new notebook seem filled with endless possibilites. I just bought this one at Target with a wedding gift card yesterday and love the saying. Here’s to starting some fresh new lists!

While we did originally venture to Target just to get a new notebook and planner, we got a bit distracted from our mission once we got inside. Who can go to Target and come out with JUST one thing?! It seems impossible. I love this store and we were so excited to receive many gift cards for our wedding! We used part of one to buy these curtains also. We painted our bedroom in the winter and the old curtains clashed terribly with it, but we had been too lazy to replace them. This trip brought us new motivation and we bought some colorful curtains to match our sheets! They are a nice peachy color, and with the sun shining through them our room has a very strange glow to it.

Yesterday I brought out one of my old loves. This flute brings me so much happiness, and while music has always played an important role in my life, these past few years I have been more focused on teaching than performing, and this flute has gotten neglected. I can’t wait to give it the love it deserves this year!

My life has been all about pasta lately. I think I took the carb loading to the max before this past long run, and am still going strong because we have so many leftovers! My husband made a great pasta salad the other night that was one of my favorite meals so far, and then we met up with a friend at Applebees to kick the weekend off.

One of our friends gave us this cute little box as a wedding gift. Sometimes it really is the little things that are the most exciting! This is such a neat idea and I am so excited to use it.

I swapped my 4 mile run that was on the schedule for Monday with my cross training day on Tuesday because my legs were still feeling pretty tired from Saturday’s run. I did some yoga yesterday and really believe it was the best thing I could have done! There is something so satisfying about stretching out tight muscles after a run. I know my legs were grateful and am hoping for an easy run this morning after an extra rest day:)

Hopefully your week is looking like it’ll be one of the best. It’s really hard to believe there are only 3 days left of August, but we’ll have to finish the month out strong!

Have a terrific Tuesday!

I am so glad summer is wrapping up, because I’m ready to have a mental reset and the season change may help with pushing the reset button.

    1. I couldn’t agree more! There’s something about the change in season that makes it feel like a fresh start. I like “mental reset”, that’s a great way to put it!
