Every month this year has flown by, but this one has definitely done so the quickest. It’s probably because the weather we had throughout September was reminiscent of summer and felt nothing like our usual September temperatures, so I constantly had to remind myself what month it was.
This month was brought the peak of marathon training, the first full month of our marriage, and back to work after an exciting summer. It’s been a month of adjustments, trials and errors, progress, set backs, and happiness.
Here are some of my favorite September memories.
My best long run ever! This run was truly 18 miles of bliss and definitely the turning point in my training. This run was a game changer for my mental attitude, and has benefited my mental preparation for all of the long runs since. The weather was absolutely perfect, the trees were starting to turn colors, and I think I finally found a strategy that makes long runs seem more manageable! I know it sounds dramatic, but I will remember this run forever.
Some times the simple things make for the best memories. We celebrated the first day back to work with a blanket fort date night. I’ve never made a blanket fort in my adult life, so I was really happy with how this one turned out. It was a great reminder to leave the stresses of work at work and truly be present in your time at home.
One of my best friends got married and I had the honor of standing up in her wedding. It was truly a blast and a day filled with joy! Weddings feel even more special to me now because I understand all of the work and careful planning that goes on behind the scenes. It was so special to be with her all day as she experienced the emotions of her wedding day.
September brought along my excitement for fall! This excitement may have come too soon because shortly after the temperatures sky rocketed and summer was back… my fingers are crossed that October will be more promising.
I think I’ve made a ton of personal growth this month and a lot of that is from the life lessons I’ve learned since quitting my job this summer. No doubt there are more lessons to be learned yet!
This month I have slowly gotten back on the cooking bandwagon. I tried out a few crockpot recipes like white chicken chili, homemade spaghetti sauce, pot roast, and of course my favorite pumpkin cookies. It feels good to be back in the game and in charge of what we are eating for dinner each night. We’ll see how long the creativity lasts;)
Definitely not one of my favorite things that happened this month, but absolutely one of the most inspiring – we found out that one of our best friend’s cancer is back. He is currently going through chemo and will be in the hospital for a month or so to have a blood transfusion later this year. His attitude throughout this process so far is one of the most inspiring things I’ve ever witnessed, and really reminds me to be grateful for all that I have.
And with that, we are down to the last two days of this month, which means there is only one month left until the New York Marathon! It also means we are getting closer to the holiday season and the chilly weather is quickly approaching. I cannot wait.
I hope your Friday is a perfect one!
