HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Hopefully all the little ones in your lives are excited to dress up tonight and collect as much sugar as possible. This holiday has to be just about every kid’s favorite, because for one day their parents aren’t allowed to tell them they’ve had too much candy. We will be spending our Halloween passing out candy to Trick or Treaters while crossing our fingers that we have some left over to enjoy ourselves. This is the best way to end October!
The arrival of Halloween marks the end of the month and a transition into the official holiday season. This month was a productive one, filled with fall colors and running excitement. Here are some of my favorites from October!
This past month, I spent quite a bit of time trying out new recipes and making some of my favorite fall foods. There is nothing better than having a warm dinner while the weather is chilly and dreary. Similarly, there isn’t a better way to top off a delicious dinner than with a seasonal dessert. Pumpkin cookies, spiced apple cider cookies, and caramel apples have been my favorites so far.
We finally got to participate in some fall activities! We hit up the pumpkin patch to pick some pumpkins, visited the corn maze, took a hike in the woods, and carved some pumpkins. Spending time outdoors in October is truly the best.
The leaves finally started to change colors this month, and boy were they beautiful! Without even realizing it, fall was suddenly in full swing. I love the cooler weather, rainy days, and beautiful colors.
My marathon excitement grew to new levels this month! The final month of marathon training goes by so quickly because three of the weeks in October were spent tapering for the race. With all the extra time on my hands, I researched race details and travel ideas for NYC. We are truly in the home stretch now with only 5 days to go!
Peak week turned out to be a little bit soggy, but my last true long run of marathon training was a great one. Despite the torrential downpours and intense thunderstorms, my legs felt awesome and my mental game was very strong. Cutting the run 4 miles short wasn’t ideal, but I was happy that it wasn’t because my body couldn’t handle it!
I’ve had so much more time to read this month than I have any other fall, and I’ve been reading some great books lately. My goal for the year was to read 15 books and I am already at 22! There is hardly anything more satisfying than completing a New Years Resolution three months early.
I am so excited to welcome November! This next month will start out strong with a trip to New York City to run the marathon on Sunday. After the race, I’m looking forward to getting back to some more cross training and completing my November Fitness Challenge. Hopefully this will keep me motivated as the weather really starts to get cold, the days get darker, and all of the holiday treats arrive.
Enjoy your Halloween and hopefully all of the little ones in your lives get all sorts of fun treats tonight!
