TCS NYC Marathon: Complete!

Recover from NYC Marathon

Good morning and happy Monday! This weekend feels like a blur but at the same time I feel like we’ve been in New York forever. I will have a full race recap posted on Wednesday, but just wanted to check in quickly today before we leave NYC.

Yesterday was a big day – one that was the culmination of 5 hard months of training. Those five months of training brought along so many life changes, including getting married and changing jobs, but running remained constant through it all. Yesterday I finally got to celebrate all the hard work I had completed by finishing the TCS NYC Marathon!

This race was everything they say it is: organized, energetic, inspiring, and challenging. I had heard that it was a hilly course already but definitely did not understand just how hilly it would be.

I was in a corral with runners slightly faster than myself, which caused me to run about 45 seconds faster than my usual pace from the start. I was able to maintain this pace and felt great right up until about mike 21-22, but then it got REALLY challenging.

Those last 4 miles in Central Park and leading up to it were such a mental battle for me, but I was able to power through and made it to the finish without walking a single time.

I am definitely suffering today and my legs are more sore than they have ever been before, but I feel incredibly lucky to have had this experience. Congrats to all the other finishers! What a special day. My full recap will be live on Wednesday! Now it’s back to Michigan to focus on a smart recovery.

Hope your week gets off to a great start today!
