November Favorites

Here we are again at the end of another month! This time of year is always when I realize just how quickly the entire year has gone by, and how close we actually are to a new year. These last few months of the year seem to fly by even faster than the others with all of the holidays that take place! My goal for the upcoming month is to really be present each day in an attempt to slow it down. As we wrap up November and transition from Thanksgiving to the holiday season, I want to share some of my favorites from this past month.

Here are my favorites from November!

November began with a trip to NYC to run the New York City Marathon! This marathon was everything I expected it to be, but yet it surprised me in so many ways. This course was one of the most challenging I’ve ever run, and I definitely struggled in the last two miles. The crowd support was unlike anything I’d ever experienced, the organization was top notch, and I felt like a celebrity the entire time. This was the best way to start the month, and the memories will forever be some of my favorites.

Completing the New York City Marathon left me at a little bit of a loss in terms of what to do for workouts. In order to create some sort of structure and maintain motivation, I completed (spoiler alert;) the November Fitness Challenge. The goal of this challenge was to complete 1,000 minutes of exercise throughout the month. I completed the goal with just a few extra minutes, mostly thanks to the marathon. This challenge really helped me realize that it’s not always about the intensity of the exercise, and that time on your feet still counts!

With the holidays beginning at the end of the month, I tried a few new workouts to burn the maximum amount of calories in the least amount of time. The Thanksgiving Workout and Black Friday Workout both left me sweating and sore for days. I love combining challenging moves to strengthen your entire body in one session!

Winter began to make an appearance this month as the temperatures dropped and Daylight Savings Time kicked in. As the weather begins to change, I’m finding myself more excited than I expected about winter running! Knowing that my time outdoors will be limited as the seasons change, I’m planning to be realistic next month. The change of pace in my fitness this month has helped me get excited and create a plan for December!

After the marathon, I ran two 5ks with my family! The first weekend, I ran the Hot Cider Hustle with my mom and husband. This was a great way to get back out there after the marathon and have fun doing it! The weather was absolutely freezing, and this race helped remind me what we are in store for during the next few months. The following weekend I ran a Turkey Trot with my husband and sister-in-law. It was abnormally warm for this race, which definitely worked out in our favor! This race felt much easier and helped me ease back into running, and these 5ks were definitely some of my favorites!

This past month has brought me from one extreme to the other in terms of running. It started off by running a marathon, and ended with excitement from rest days and 5ks. These past few weeks have given me important reminders about the role running plays in my life. I spent a lot of time feeling grateful for everything I have learned from running, and understanding that running will always be there for me, no matter what my current goals are.

After Thanksgiving, my husband and I got our first real Christmas tree! I have always had a fake tree and absolutely love it. Even still, after going to a Christmas tree farm with my husband’s family, we ended up taking another one home. We found a small Charlie Brown tree on sale that was too cute to resist! I can’t wait to get it all set up.

The upcoming winter running season makes me so excited to head into December. The holidays are always busy which provides a challenge when trying to stay active. This year I am welcoming the challenge, looking forward to enjoying the holidays, and easing back into some more running. Tomorrow I am starting the 30 Day Plank Challenge. Let’s end this month on a high note today!
