Marathon Training Recap: Week 4

Marathon training is well under way as week 4 wraps up and I just can’t believe almost a quarter of training is complete! It definitely doesn’t feel like that’s the case after this week, as I planned a cut back week to prepare for a half marathon this weekend.

The mileage this week was a little lower than usual, but with a ton of unexpected travels I was very grateful. My husband and I are preparing to move across the state for his new job, and living far away makes house hunting very difficult! I am proud that I was able to fit in my runs and workouts even with all the craziness, and especially grateful for the stress relieving benefits of running.

Indianapolis Marathon Training Recap: Week 4

Monday, 7/9 – 4 miles

I swapped a few days around this week and completed my run on Monday instead of Tuesday. I ran this on a trail that I am not totally familiar with, so the out and back felt really long because I didn’t have any landmarks to base the mileage off of and kept checking my watch. Temperatures were really warm for this run but they are starting to feel more bearable!

Tuesday, 7/10 – Yoga

I got in such a great groove starting my week off with yoga these past few training cycles, and I definitely want to continue that. After a crazy start to the week I was more the ready for some yoga. I just can’t say enough about this routine and how helpful these poses have been for me.

Wednesday, 7/11 – 4 miles

We stopped back home after some house hunting and I was excited to get rid of some stress! This run felt much easier than Monday and the humidity was much lower. I was thankful to be back to my usual running route!

Thursday, 7/12 – Strength Workout

This strength workout almost didn’t happen but I managed to motivate myself to get moving late at night. I was glad I did and felt productive with this workout! I can’t wait until it starts to feel easier again.

Friday, 7/13 – Rest

Had to swap my rest day due to some unexpected travel this week. Sure was weird having a rest day on Friday!

Saturday, 7/14 – 3 miles

The Friday rest day meant that my short run was pushed around! These three miles were humid ones, but it was cloudy for the first time in a long time!

Sunday, 7/15 – 6 miles

My “long run” this week was only 6 miles in an attempt to taper for next week’s half marathon! I expected this run to feel a little sluggish but ended up feeling really easy and went by quickly.

The Rock n Roll Half Marathon in Chicago is less than 1 week away now! We will be making the trek down from northern Michigan to Chicago on Saturday and running on Sunday. While I am not training for this specifically, I am excited to fit in a long run in a race atmosphere! This week will be my attempted taper week before the race while we’re on vacation, so we’ll see how it goes.
