Marathon Training Recap: Week 11

Marathon training is my favorite season and I'm excited to get back to it today. Here is my week 11 marathon training recap for the Indianapolis Marathon!

This past week of marathon training was exactly what I needed to get back in the groove of training again. It’s funny how it gets easier and easier to miss workouts as you start to skip or miss one. The excuses come quickly and my mind puts up much less of a battle after missing a few runs already.

Last week was the first full week that we were in our new house and it was glorious. Being able to run in the same place and not have to rearrange workouts throughout the week was awesome. I got in quite a bit of exploring some of the neighborhood streets and local trails and am feeling really excited to run here.

After a few missed runs and bouts of inconsistency this past month, week 11 of marathon training helped me get back on track. Check out this marathon training recap!

Indianapolis Marathon Training Recap: Week 11

Monday, 8/27 – Yoga

We finally unpacked our DVDs and I was able to complete this Runner’s World routine with the DVD. While I know all of the movements myself, it’s nice to have a guide and know that I am holding each pose for the correct length of time. This yoga routine never fails me, and was just what I needed after having to run on Sunday (my usual rest day).

Tuesday, 8/28 – 4 miles

This was my first time running through some of our neighborhood streets and I am excited that I was able to find a 4 mile route that keeps me away from any busy roads. This run felt pretty sluggish and slow, but once I got going it felt a bit better. It was really hot and humid while I was running, which definitely slowed me down!

Wednesday, 8/29 – 8 miles: 2 x 400s, 2 x 800s, 2 x 1 mile

I knew this speed workout was going to be mentally challenging before I even started, so I was definitely not on top of my mental game heading into this workout. It took a lot of effort, but luckily I was able to hit my goal for each of these intervals (a few of them just barely)! It’s nice to have a mental challenge every once and a while, and when it was over I was definitely glad that I didn’t give up.

Thursday, 8/30 – Strength Workout

This week was no different than any other week, and I completed my weekly strength training exercises on Thursday. I’ve started adding on this 15 minute core workout and my abs were definitely burning the next day! It’s been a while since I’ve done any focused core exercises. It is nice to get back to it though!

Friday, 8/31 – 14 miles

This is my longest run of marathon training so far! The training plan I am following is a bit different than my usual plan, and has longer mid week runs and more cut back long run mileage. I am feeling pretty strong so far this marathon training cycle though and it is certainly nice to have a shorter long run every few weeks!

It was much cooler when I left for this run, which was awesome, but by the end I was really feeling the heat. I found a couple local trails nearby and am so excited to have a place to go for my long runs! I felt really strong throughout this run and was amazed how quickly it flew by.

Saturday, 9/1 – Rest

I switched up my rest day since we were traveling to the west side of the state for the holiday weekend.

Sunday, 9/2 – 5 miles

These five miles were completed with my mom on the running trail near her house! I was surprised how well my legs bounced back after a longer run on Friday. It was a pretty slow run, but our paces were right on with where I was supposed to be. Running with someone else sure makes the miles fly by!

I am really excited to see mileage increasing and speed workouts getting more challenging. This marathon training plan has definitely brought some challenges, but I am certainly feeling stronger from them. The race is now just over 2 months away and I know these last weeks are going to fly by! Here’s to a new week.
