The holidays are my favorite time of year. All of the festive activities, gatherings, and events fill me with so much joy. But all of the seasonal fun can really add up, making each day busier than the next. As time flies by, it seems harder and harder to maintain an exercise routine, or even just fit in a workout. When my motivation decreases, I make sure to find fun, at home workouts that I enjoy to get the job done.
Like this 12 days of Christmas workout.
There’s no better way to fit exercising in your schedule than with a Christmas themed workout. My motivation is significantly higher knowing that I’ll be challenged in a unique way.
This 12 Days of Christmas workout features 12 full body HIIT exercises. These bodyweight exercises require no equipment, making this workout a challenge you can do anywhere. These HIIT exercises increase your heart rate and help you burn calories right in your living room. Each exercise targets and strengthens a different area of your body, for a complete full body burn.
This Christmas workout is based on the classic song, “the 12 Days of Christmas”. For a challenge, try completing the workout along with the song to really feel the burn, or sing along in your head as you work your way through the exercises.
The 12 days of Christmas workout is completed in the same order as the song:
“On the first day of Christmas… On the second day of Christmas…”
Begin by completing the first exercise just once. Move on the second exercise, completed twice, followed by the first exercise again. Next, complete the third exercise 3 times, second exercise 2 times, and first exercise once. Continue adding one exercise and then working your way down to one each time. The final round will look like: #12 twelve times, #11 eleven times, #10 ten times, #9 nine times, etc., all the way down to one.
While this Christmas workout looks relatively simple on paper, it is an incredible physical challenge. The exercises really start to add up as you work your way through the song. Complete the workout multiple times this season and see if you can improve your finishing time.
