Where did the time go? I swear I just sat down to make my New Year’s Resolutions and suddenly here I am, updating my goals after two months! February flew by even faster than January, but I can’t say I’m too sad to see it go.

This past month was a busy one filled with unexpected stresses and sadness after the loss of my Uncle. While things have begun to settle back to normal, the emotions from this past month will take a little while longer to fully dissipate. With that being said, there were still some really great things that happened this past month.

These are a few of my favorite moments from February!

We finally got the snow I had been hoping for! February kicked off with a few snow showers, but then really took a turn a few weeks in when we got over a foot of snow. No matter how tired I get of the cold weather, running while it’s snowing never fails to remind me of the beauty that can be found in nature. The snowflakes this past month were those beautiful fat flakes that seem to fall in slow motion. I loved it!

My husband celebrated his birthday! He wanted to spend the day at home relaxing, which worked out well since his birthday was on a Sunday. I got him a gift to open every hour which was really fun! His birthday fell a few days before I gave up sugar for the next 40 days, so we indulged on cake and sweets throughout the day.

Valentine’s Day was busy for both my husband and I, but we celebrated with an awesome dinner at home and some beautiful flowers.

We spent a night at a beautiful Bed and Breakfast on Lake Michigan! I love living just half an hour from the lake shore, and really miss it in the winter. We decided to book some time away as a belated birthday and Valentine’s Day celebration, and it ended up happening at the perfect time, when we really needed to get away. We walked from town to the beach and along the pier to see the frozen waves. Michigan sure is beautiful!

I began my journey of giving up sugar for 40 days. I am now 15 days in, and the past few weeks have definitely had their ups and downs. When I first began, I was eager for the challenge and curious as to what the effects would be. After the first couple of days, the reality really set in and I began to feel overwhelmed trying to find substitutes for my usual plethora of sugary snacks throughout the day. Now that I am a bit more settled, I have found a routine and am excited about what results this will bring!

And of course, training for a 25k in May kicked off this month! I can’t even express how great it feels to increase my mileage again. After taking a much needed break from high running mileage since the New York City Marathon, I was fully ready to add more running to my week. The first few weeks of training were a little challenging, but now I am feeling much more settled in the routine. I can’t wait to see what this training plan brings!

February training for a 25k brought lots of snow and indoor workout plans.

March always seems to be a transitional month. Some years it’s filled with snow storms while others we get a burst of beautiful, spring weather. I am excited to see what this month brings and am greatly anticipating the longer hours of daylight and more sunshine.

The beginning of a new month always feels like a fresh start, and this one couldn’t have come at a better time after the whirlwind that took place these past few weeks.

Happy March!
