Happy weekend!! It’s the best day of the week:) I just love Saturdays. Gosh there is nothing like the slow pace of a weekend right after a work week. I just finished up my last workout of the week and am happy (and somewhat surprised;) to say that I am now 3 weeks completed of my training play with no missed or adjusted workouts! I think this is the longest I’ve completed without missing or changing a day. In 2015 I finished an 18 week marathon training plan and completed every single run (still don’t know how I did that!) without missing a single mile, but I did not do even close to all the cross or strength training workouts on there. So far so good with this plan!
I spent Thursday evening through this morning up in Grand Rapids, MI for the Michigan Music Conference. This conference is always a blast, not only because there are so many great presenters and sessions full of fresh energy and new ideas, but because it provides a chance to catch up with all of your long lost friends. Quite a few of my close friends are also music educators, as those were the people I hung out with in college, and we don’t get a chance to get together very often because we’re spread across the state at different schools. I had such a great time seeing everyone and spending time with others in my field. There is a Kilwins right downtown GR near the conference so this is a must stop! I got the cake batter ice cream and finished my friend’s mint chocolate chip as well. Good thing I convinced myself to get that long run in today!
Because of the conference, I knew I wouldn’t be able to get a workout in on Friday (I should rephrase that – I knew I wouldn’t be motivated to get up early and complete my workout before the conference started regardless of if I set my alarm and got all my clothes out the night before or not), so I did a longer workout on Monday and fit two of them in. This worked well because Monday was Martin Luther King Day and we had the day off school! Monday was my spin workout and an Iron Strength workout.
–> On a side note, I just ordered the new Iron Strength DVD and am PUMPED to try it! This workout always pushes me to my limits and leaves me sore for days. I truly believe it’s one of the best overall workouts I’ve ever done and just can’t wait to see what Jordan Metzl has for us in this new DVD. If you’re interested you can order them here: IronStrength
Definitely worth checking out if you’ve never done it before! Anyways, Tuesday was a midweek run of 3.5 miles, Wednesday was my 8 x 400s workout and Thursday was Kayla Itsines’ BBG Week 7. Friday was off for the concert and today was an 8 mile run outside. I felt pretty sluggish in all of my workouts this week, I think it is just that point in the training cycle. It seems to me that a great week is always followed by a mediocre or poor week of training, and this cycle continues as the weeks progress. I’m hoping this holds true and next week will be full of great workouts 😉 today I ran in the afternoon when I got home and I sure felt sluggish after being out late last night and drinking a few too many glasses of wine! It was almost 60 degrees and sunny outside when I ran (WHAT!?) which was definitely a breath of fresh air. I sure love snow but it always feels nice when you can run outside without your fingers and toes feeling like they’re going to fall off! We’ll see how long this sticks around.
Earlier this week I entered the lottery for the NYC Marathon! I am ridiculously excited about this possibility. It has been a dream of mine for a long time to run this race and I can’t wait to see if I get in! More than likely I will not get in, as less than half of the tickets are chosen to run, but it’s worth a shot! I think the drawing is in early March so we’ll see what happens. If I don’t get in I plan to sign up for a different fall marathon this year, and am still toying with the idea of an early summer/late spring (May ish) marathon. We’ll see how it goes!
I hope you are having a great, relaxing afternoon. After the craziness of the holidays it’s always nice to sit back and relax without feeling guilty for a little while. Hopefully some of this beautiful weather heads your way too!
