The Best Outdoor Running App

It’s fair to say that I’ve been obsessed with running and fitness blogs for about 8 years now. I still vividly remember the day that I stumbled upon my first blog, right about when I began training for my first half marathon and probably googled some tips, and felt like I stumbled upon a gold mine. I absolutely love reading about the mundane details in others’ lives, especially those who have similar interests. There is something so comforting in knowing that other people out there are experiencing something similar to you.

Footpath Running App

It just now occurred to me though, that I have never heard anybody mention one of my absolute favorite running apps! I found this app about 3 years ago and it has helped my running immensely.

I am definitely one of those out-the-door runners; it is so much easier for me to motivate myself to get out there and run when I know I can leave right from my front door and finish my run in the same place. With that being said, I also find that running the same loop every single time gets boring as heck! After finding this app, I’m able to switch up my routes every single day and know exactly what mileage I’ll be running before I head out the door.

This app is called Footpath, and for runners I’d say it’s the best thing since pasta for carb loading 😉

With Footpath, you’re able to open the app and map out exactly where you’ll be running! You can set this app to use your location, in which case it will always open up to the streets right by you, or you can type in a location and go from there. You literally just draw along the streets with your finger (and you can turn the magnet on so it will automatically correct you lines and make them straight for you:) and it will calculate the distance for you.

I use this app more often than I care to admit! With moving three times in the past three years, it has been so incredibly helpful. It has allowed me to experiment with different routes and always know exactly how far I’ll be going before I head out the door. Even now that I have been living in the same place for almost a year, I still use it to mix up my routes or find new places for long runs. When I travel it is right there to help me find out how far the street goes before it dead ends, or what loop will get me the distance I am looking for.

Love, love, love this app! I hope more runners out there discover it so we can rave about it together. So simple, yet so helpful.
